      Four months ago I went through the interview process with GoPro for a senior software engineer position, and my experience was a mixed bag. The recruiting firm’s initial contact and introduction to GoPro were smooth, with a clear discussion about my profile and salary expectations. The GoPro recruiter I spoke to was pleasant, and we had a detailed conversation about what I could bring to the company. However, despite upfront salary expectation discussion with the recruiting firm and GoPro, the eventual offer was significantly below my expectations. The interview stages, including a positive discussion with the team manager and a comprehensive technical test, went well. I successfully completed the exercise, and GoPro’s recruiter promptly initiated the internal process for an offer. Unfortunately, the offer received was a lowball, far from the salary range - 20K below - I had clearly communicated earlier in the process. Upon rejecting the initial offer and expressing my expectations, the recruiter explained the company’s constraints, citing other engineers with significantly more experience (12 years) being paid considerably less. This left me with the impression that my skills and experience were undervalued, and it was disappointing to see my efforts during the interview process not reflected in the compensation offered. While I appreciate the positive aspects of the interview experience, the final compensation negotiation left me with reservations about GoPro’s commitment to recognizing the value of experienced professionals in their team. In conclusion, while there were positive aspects to my interview experience with GoPro, the substantial disparity between my communicated salary expectations and the final offer was disheartening. The lack of alignment in compensation and the recruiter's explanation about the company's pay structure left me questioning the value placed on experienced engineers within the organization. The negotiation process felt like a waste of time, and it raised concerns about the company's commitment to valuing its engineering talent. Additionally, the apparent discrepancy in promoting junior engineers to senior positions within a short timeframe added to my reservations - have a look at their marketing videos. As a result of my experience, I cannot recommend GoPro as an employer for engineers seeking fair compensation and recognition for their expertise.
