Gartner contacted me to offer a BDM position. I successfully passed the first three interviews with HR. The fourth interview was an informal chat with the direct manager, which went smoothly, with nothing notable to mention. The fifth and final interview involved a role play and "Why Me" presentation, with three people from management and two from HR.
This last interview was unnecessarily uncomfortable and surprising, considering they had initially reached out to me for the position. The attitude during this interview felt somewhat distant and didn’t align with the expectations set earlier in the process. At the end of the interview, they asked for references from my previous employer. I provided several phone numbers, and I know they only contacted one person, who gave a positive review.
However, they told me that my profile could fit better on an Account Executive role, which would be opening in a few weeks, and we agreed to follow up later.
After two weeks, I reached out to follow up but received no response. About a month later, they contacted me again to restart the process. This time, the conversations with HR were smoother, and I moved directly to steps 4 and 5. The management involved was much more pleasant and coherent, though at times they seemed a bit bored. At least the interaction was more cordial than the previous one.
A week later, the recruiter called to inform me that I was not selected for the position, but they didn’t give me clear reasons as to why. Ultimately, they told me they had chosen an internal candidate.
In short, I think they have a lot of room for improvement in the selection process.
