I first met with the pastor and his wife for two hours at a local restaurant after emailing my resume when recommended to do so by a friend. A few days later, I was asked to go to the office for a more formal interview at the main offices to meet the Executive Administrator and new Youth Pastor. I was asked many questions for about two hours. I was invited to Youth Group that Wednesday night, then asked to prepare a ten minute devotion/lesson for the third-fifth grade class to present that Sunday. Two weeks later, I had another interview at the main office with the same group. A few days later, I was given a contingent offer letter. The offer was incredibly low for the position and our area, and the Executive Administrator did not seem to know this. I submitted a counter offer letter with my references and background waiver. He called three out of four of my references several days after my background check came back, then called me to rescind the offer. He stated that, while my references seemed to like me very much, they made it clear to him that I was not a good fit for that job.
