interviewed for the Senior AI Engineer role and went through three rounds in total. The recruiter was genuinely great throughout, kept me updated with feedback and was very easy to communicate with. They even sent me prep material beforehand which specifically said the interviewers value reasoning more than the final answer, so I went in with that mindset.
The final round was a mix of Python coding and AI system design. We had already lost 10 minutes at the start due to a technical glitch on Google Meet. The coding problem had no sample output whatsoever, making it genuinely confusing to understand what the expected outcome was.
I did solve the problem, but one of the interviewers pushed me toward a specific approach I was not comfortable with. When I tried to reason through my own approach, which they had literally asked me to do, one of them just completed the question themselves and moved on. I was cut short multiple times and never given the space to actually reason, which was ironic given what the prep material said.
For the system design, since this was an AI engineer role, I went into the AI side of things. They then told me they wanted infrastructure, which was never communicated at any point. I could see both interviewers getting visibly frustrated. I absolutely could have covered the infra side if it had been mentioned beforehand.
They ended the call after that and I did not even get the chance to ask my questions. I have never had a worse interview experience and it genuinely made me doubt my own capabilities. It felt like they were specific on a very particular approach and the interview was never really an open evaluation and that was never communicated.
Left having a bad taste with an otherwise good recruiting process.
