Interviewer was late. Interview began with a series of questions designed to test interviewee's general technical knowledge. All questions had been pulled off a publicly available online list somewhere, as several of the questions were asked verbatim at other interviews for different companies. After this, more standard, verbatim interview questions "tell us about yourself" "why do you want this job". After that, they gave a run down on what they want the successful applicant. This included the following: - Providing basic phone and email support from the office to customers. - Data analytics driven suggestions for performance improvement. - Frequent driving and customer site attendance. (Questioning this reveals they expected the applicant to pay for their own vehicle, fuel, supplies and other transport costs out of pocket.) - Research, plan and perform entire IT system design and implementation for regional local councils in areas of no internet or mobile reception or connectivity without support. It was not mentioned, but the director appeared to use the office as a daycare centre for his own children. An 'unspoken' expectation was providing child care to the director's children on top of normal duties. As a note of importance: Other than the phone and email support requirements, nothing else was mentioned by the recruiter or in the ad for any of these additional tasks. After this, I was asked my salary expectations. I explained as the job they outlined went well beyond their publicly advertised expectations, I would not accept the role for less than $80,000 plus super per year, probably more. The two interviewers physically flinched at my offer. After leaving the office and speaking to the recruiter who was as equally surprised by the mention of the additional work expectations, I advised I was withdrawing my application.
