Pretty sure I was the only applicant during this time period. Was told that most customers were women so I was at a bit of a disadvantage since they needed more women employees than men. Was verbally offered the job during the interview and then received a rejection email. Never heard back about why. They didn't call my references, and the background check they ran on me came back as clear.
