      Entretien

Extremely easy interview, except with questionable criteria. Resume review for 10 minutes then asked to debug a Java class. While debugging the interviewer asked to not explain any thought process behind any bug fixes made and left the room to get a snack. When asked how it was evaluated the only criteria was that all the tests passed. Finished the debugging portion in 10 minutes passing all tests first try. Afterwards, no response for 5 months then a rejection email after already accepting a position at a different company.

      Entretien

I spoke to a recruiter and a senior engineer at University of Maryland's computer science career fair. They were very friendly and said they would likely reach out to me in a few weeks about an interview. I had an interview on campus, it was one on one, we started off with a bit of resume review and discussed my past projects and I was asked why I'm interested in working for a company like Fireside21. This was followed by a short programming challenge, it was very fair and also was not a typical white-board style interview. At the end of the interview I had felt confident that I did a good job and would move on to the next round. Approximately 2-3 weeks later I received an email from my prospective supervisor, congratulating me on making it to the next round and inviting me for an in-office interview at their Penn Quarter, DC office. The office was beautiful and I was sat down in a conference room to meet with three of the members of the engineering team. There was further resume review, asking me questions about what technology stacks I prefer, what I look for in an internship, etc. There was no programming or skills based challenge at this point, but it was clear I had to be knowledgeable about my resume and software development in general. After another week or so, I received an offer letter. Overall, the company is looking for interns who are passionate about technology/development, motivated and aren't afraid of a challenge or facing unfamiliar territory.
