Started with a technical test which I did remotely and went well enough that I was later asked in for an interview. Head of development asked a few questions about the test and my answers seemed satisfactory so I think that pretty much secured me the job.
The CEO happened to not be in on the day of my interview, which I found strange and unprofessional since I was told I'd meet him that day. So the second interview stage was with HR instead, and I was asked some generic questions about what games I like. A nice chat, but my questions were met with uncertain responses so fairly fruitless in terms of learning anything about the company. I asked about how they deal with mental health and diversity in the workplace, and the answer was basically that... they don't. Unfortunately, my need for a job stifled the alarm bells going off in my mind when I heard that. A long time after I accepted the job, I found out that the CEO doesn't turn up to your interview if he doesn't like you (yes, even though he hadn't met me yet). This can cause problems; see the employee reviews for details.
An interview isn't just for the company to decide if they like you, but for you to decide if you like them. If you don't turn up, you don't get the job. So the main interviewer not turning up is a huge red flag. I would strongly advise any new candidates to seriously consider their other options if this happens to them. If they fall into a minority group within the games industry, even more so. Respect between you and your employer should start at the interview.
