      Entretien pour Front End Developer

      7 mars 2018
      Employé (anonyme)
      Montréal, QC
      Offre acceptée
      Expérience positive
      Entretien moyen

      Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 1 semaine. J'ai passé un entretien chez Diff Agency (Montréal, QC) en déc. 2017

      Entretien

I reached out on LinkedIn and another job posting website and heard back fairly quickly. There were two interviews, a technical one and then a 'culture' one, and in my case they were back to back. The technical one consisted of a general code review, a fairly basic javascript algorithm, and then a simple enough html/css/javascript task in JS fiddle. The technical interviewer was very patient and encouraged me to ask questions on anything I was stuck on, including syntax. I wasn't rushed at all and even left feeling like I had learned something. The culture interview felt casual and natural, no trick questions or pressure tactics, more like a conversation than an interview, which I appreciated. I left both interviews much more interested in working for Diff than when I had arrived.

      Question 1

In the technical interview, they asked me to pull up some code I had written and walk them through it.

      Entretien

Had a call with HR, we talked about previous and current work experiences, then I had a test to do, a countdown timer built with any framework (React, VueJS,...). Several days after I had a video chat with HR and Dev Lead, we talked about the test and how I can be integrated into the team. At the end they didn't take because I'm too attached to React (which I've never said, I said that I was flexible) and they prefer to take someone who made the test in vanilla (HR was very vague about the stack they use, she don't know if they'll use React or VueJS), they want someone to stay and not get annoyed of building Shopify themes, because yeah the position is about to build Shopify themes mostly no engineering, you will do UI/UX annoying stuff. The process was fair the only feedback I would provide is, if the candidate seems to want to do more than building Shopify themes don't waste his time by making him test and useless calls.

I submitted my application online and was contacted by HR for an interview. I only met with one of the dev team leads. He started the interview by introducing himself and asked me a few questions about myself and my experience. The second part of the interview was technical. I had to solve on paper 2 simple programming questions and solve 1 challenge on a computer. The team lead was very nice and patient throughout the entire process.
