Obtaining an interview at Deveney was fairly simple for me, and the process took about three weeks from initial contact to a job offer.
The process was disjointed, however. I met with members of the company who had little knowledge of the type of work I was to perform.
In my interview with the CEO, the title that was intended for me was Creative Director. I'll provide more on this shortly.
An offer was made to me verbally after a few weeks, and I was told I'd be hired as the Creative Director, and would execute the functions thereof. My salary requirements were accepted, and the offer was to arrive in writing on the following day.
My primary mistake (aside from actually interviewing former employees of the agency) was placing my notice after the verbal offer, but before the written offer. When the written offer arrived, my salary was nearly $13,000.00 less that initially agreed upon, because the benefits were considered part of my compensation. Unacceptable.
Negotiations failed from that point and I reluctantly accepted. Upon my hire date, my title became Sr. Art Director, and I was tasked with developing websites even though I repeatedly asserted through the interview process that I would not develop website for the agency.
