J'ai postulé en personne. Le processus a pris 4 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez Deschutes Public Library (Bend, OR)

The interview process was welcoming and well-organized at first, with all the librarians present and asking structured questions similar to the application. However, I was surprised by a second part that included two graded tests that were not mentioned beforehand. One involved navigating the website, and the other required ordering books using the Dewey Decimal system. This felt frustrating, especially for candidates without prior library experience, since it’s something typically learned on the job. Overall, the process was thorough but could benefit from more transparency about the testing portion. What really threw me off was the testing portion, especially since it was graded and not mentioned beforehand. Some questions were very librarian-specific, and without prior experience, it was difficult to know the correct answers. The fact that you are graded made me feel uneasy and frustrated. The decade-old saying how am I supposed to get experience if I don't have the know-how from a previous library job to help me.
the grading. the test grading seemed unnecessary.

Easy, clear and fun. They seemed fair, gave questions in advance and we’re willing to take the time to explain job goals. I enjoyed it and had a good idea about the job afterwards.
