Timewasting application process for unclear reasons. I applied online and was asked to have a 30 minute video call with a recruiter. Prior to the call I emailed xDesign to confirm that they would be considering candidates without prior Java experience, which was confirmed to be true. My experience is across different tech stacks, however I made it clear I'd be interested in learning Java. The call lasted 20 minutes with the recruiter, discussing my prior experience, previous company and what xDesign does. The recruiter appeared to be pretty interested in my experience. After that discussion he revealed that they weren't actually looking for candidates without commercial Java experience, and weren't currently interested in hiring people with with my experience in other tech stacks. He explained that he would be interested in reaching out in a few months time if they have other roles up. I have no idea what the point of the call was and why they wanted a call. The recruiter seemed like a nice guy - maybe he's new to the company. Overall a waste of time for both me and the recruiter, and clearly an uncoordinated and disorganised hiring process. If it weren't so bizarre I'd probably be pretty annoyed.
