This was a casual meeting more than an interview because no role was specified nor was it clear if they had a specific responsibility in mind. I met with the Editor. The interview was underwhelming and the questions were not thought out or designed towards any goal. There was no clarity even after the interview. As directionless as it was, the general copy test was suggested. Then an additional freshly written writing sample just for them was requested even though there was enough evidence and overlap in industry and writing experience packed in for the Editor to gauge expertise. After all of the above was supplied, there was no communication from the team. It would probably help not waste anyone's time if interviews had a goal and a role in mind. If the requirement is foreign degrees, state it clearly. If you cannot afford the candidate, ask for their last drawn before interviewing and don't interview them. Have the courtesy to communicate said test results and end on a note that is professional and respectful. The last is very difficult for such a huge brand like Conde Nast but the industry is small and having good manners makes you a better brand. The company is not transparent so interview at your own risk.
