I don't normally do this, but feel it is my duty to other job seekers to warn them. I was contacted by a recruiter via LinkedIn Message about a position with one of their clients. She asked for my contact information, so I sent her my email and number. She called me while I was on another call, then messaged me asking to call her back at my own phone number (obviously a typo). She then called me back a few minutes later from a Morristown, NJ number. I had trouble hearing and understanding her, but I agreed to speak with the assigned recruiter, since she wasn't able to tell me the name of the company or location or any real details. This was my first warning bell. Within a few minutes the other recruiter called me from a Morristown, NJ number. I struggled to understand him as well as his accent was very heavy. I asked him about the name of the company and the exact location of the position as I live in a metro area and I won't consider a job outside of a certain commute area. He wasn't sure of the information but said he would call back with it?? and ended the call. He called me back and gave me the name and just said the city as the location. He said he would send me an email with the information. He did ask me about my experience with Workday, and he asked my hourly rate. He sent me an email with the name of the company and the city with zip code, but when I did a Google and Glassdoor search, no business came up with that name ANYWHERE. If the alarm bells weren’t ringing before, they were banging by this point. He asked again for me to indicate if I was interested, so at this point, I was curious to see where this was going. I then got an email with the incorrect job title and location, and some type of agreement for them to represent me. I know this is fairly standard in recruiting/staffing companies but what isn't standard is the section where they request the last 5 digits of my SSN and my birth month and day. My background is HR, and I can assure you there is absolutely NO REASON anyone needs that information at this stage. Only once an offer is accepted and the company is doing a background check would this information be needed. I then researched Collabera on Glassdoor - if you look past the obvious planted reviews of current employees and the reviews from India, you will see my experience is similar. I then Googled Collabera and looked at several sites like BBB and scam sites. I found something from 2011 where they were asking for SSN and other personal information and then the job never happens. So, I responded I was no longer interested in the job. I chose not to point out the reasons as I can't afford to risk my name being blacklisted by some possible shady recruiting company. He quickly responded by email saying it was a typo, and to please confirm their representation and hourly rate (which was not what I told him I would accept). I am once again going to tell him I am not interested in the position.
