      Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 2 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez Cold Iron Studios en oct. 2018

      Entretien

I applied online and the next day they got back to me. They set up a phone interview for later the following week, and the call went well. I interviewed with two head artists and we talked about the project and the team, my work experience, what did I know about the Alien art style, etc. Standard interview questions, nothing too tricky. One thing that did stick out in the phone call was when I asked "When are you looking to fill the position?" they answered "Immediately" and without my prompting, they said they had already interviewed a lot of candidates and even extended offers to some. Two red flags popped up to me - 1.) why am I being interviewed so late in the process then? and 2.) if there is only one position open, why did they extend offer*S*? Nevertheless, the rest of the call went well, the people were friendly, the recruiter would always respond to me within half an hour or less, and the studio got back to me about 2 days later asking if I could do an art test - to make a munitions case from start to finish. They gave me as long as I wanted to do the best I could do, which I thought was respectable. Not wanting to have them wait forever, I worked nearly 50 hours over 9 days, nearly every hour of every day after my full-time job. When I was done and submitted it, three days later they send me a short email saying simply that they are not moving forward with my application. I asked if I could get feedback on how to have been a better candidate, and they told me it's "not their policy to give feedback to candidates they decide not to move forward with." I felt used and bitter, and since part of their turn-in requirements are raw game assets, I can't help but wonder if they are farming out assets as art tests.
