There's no doubt that Cockroach wants you to put skin in the game, but I never felt as if I was doing work that they would use. If I was, it didn't seem significant enough that I had a problem with it. The interview process is long, involved, and exhausting - this was definitely a time investment. They are very focused on performance-based interviewing. The belief is that by removing your resume, everyone is on an even playing field - this is great for folks that are fresh out of school and don't have a lot of credentials. For those who have a lot of industry experience, however, it doesn't give any opportunity to talk about other skills and experience that you bring to the table. I guess this is their trade-off. My process was: - an initial intake - interview with the hiring manager - assignment where I was to complete documentation (topic wasn't difficult and took me a couple hours) - prepare a presentation for on-site delivery - day on-site: + presentation and transposition into documentation (writing assignment) + receive presentation and writing assignment + lunch + receive presentation and writing assignment + editing assignment + closing meeting with hiring manager and hr If we had progressed, there would be references and, I think, the final offer. Everyone at the company seemed very happy, well taken care of, and friendly. Given the opportunity, I would happily work for them. To go through the interview process again …. I'm not sure.

Very poor and unprofessional experience with the Cockroach Labs recruiter and this seems to be the trend and culture of the recruiters at this company. Please read other candidates interview experiences and you will realize that they had the same experience as me - contacted by the recruiter, initial interview was set up, told that another interview will be set up in the future with the hiring manager and that’s it…….poof….you will hear nothing after that even after attempting to contact the recruiter. The recruiter just ghosts you. Before interviewing, I read similar reviews here on Glassdoor and though that it’s probably not true, but I had the exact same experience. On Tuesday, the first week of July 2021, the recruiter contacted me through email and set up an initial 30-minute screening interview. As per the recruiter, everything went well, and I received another email to set up an hour-long interview on either Thursday or Friday with the hiring manager. I gave the recruiter the days and time that I was available. I was also asked for work samples, where I invested time to remove confidential data from the samples and sent it to the recruiter. That’s it, I never heard back from the recruiter at all. I attempted to contact the recruiter on Friday and the following week after, which is the second week of July 2021 and requested them to at least update me if they want to move forward or not. It’s completely okay if a company does not to move forward, but at least be professional and update the candidates. We invest our time for you and to be unprofessional like this shows the culture of the company. For other candidates who want to interview with Cockroach Labs………good luck.
