      Entretien

The interview process for the HR Generalist position at Cherished Companions was long and time consuming. I went through two phone interviews, online testing, two in person interviews with the owner of the agency and a day in the office to meet the staff and see the operation. The owner was late by at least 10 minutes to both in person interviews. The position itself is more recruiting with heavy administrative duties and some HR. You are also required to be on-call three weekday nights and at least one weekend night each week. I was told this is not a 40 or even a 45 hour a week job, notwithstanding the on call hours. Generally, when you get to the point where a company is bringing you into the office to meet everyone, you might think that you are being very seriously considered for the position or that you have the position. Unfortunately, this is not the case with Cherished Companions. As it turned out, there was more than one applicant who made it to the end of the process, and they ended up not hiring anyone. It was explained to me at some point during the interview process that they have been having trouble finding just the right fit for the job and that this was their 3rd time running the ad and going through the process. Believe me, as an HR professional, I understand finding the right fit and how important that is to a company. However, it is ridiculous to waste as much time as they did with so many applicants to not hire anyone. Furthermore, I was promised some sort of compensation for the day I took off work to meet with staff, such as a gift card, which was very nice of them to offer, however, they didn’t follow through so it just made them appear either completely unorganized or that they simply don’t follow through with their promises. I certainly would not want to work for an employer who doesn’t follow through with promises before I was even hired. It took them several weeks (with no contact whatsoever unless I initiated it) to give me a final answer. The final response I received was “I don’t think we are going to make you an offer, but then again, I have not gotten a final answer from the owner so you never know.” Just so you know I will never accept any kind offer you may wish to extend. The owner comes across as wish-y wash-y and I was able to confirm this while I was there for the staff meet and greet. I directly asked the staff what kind of boss he was and they all said he is very passive and avoids conflict at all costs, which causes the staff much frustration. It was also stated that his timelines for getting work done are not realistic and that he begins too many projects at once for the amount of staff he has, which also causes frustration and additional work stress. The staff members said overall they liked their jobs, but that it was stressful work. In my opinion, the amount of on call time required is enough to cause a lot of stress. Imagine not being able to live your life outside of work for three weeknights and one weekend night every week! An example of the owner's passiveness is the fact that this place is under the gun with the affordable care act and the changes to overtime pay for home care workers as they have done very little, if anything, and are now panicking and want this new HR person to fix it all for them by the end of the year.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

There really weren't any difficult or unexpected questions, it was typical behavioral interview questions. The owner of the company is very proud of the online testing, which I believe he developed in a previous career, but they seem to rely on it too heavily to make their hiring decisions for them rather than using it as a tool.
