      J'ai passé un entretien chez Chan Zuckerberg Initiative

      I was interviewed by a panel and only half of the people I spoke to had actually looked at my resume prior to the interview so that was off putting. One panelist asked "so how did we find you?". I'm guessing no one talks to each other there. The interview consisted of each panelist typing a copious amount of notes on their laptop and barely making eye contact with me. I know some companies do this but it felt like I was a lecturer and not a candidate. The vibe in the office was literally dead and it wasn't one of their WFH days. Rows and rows of desks were empty, which I'm sure was a result of one of their layoffs as described in their poor reviews. I even addressed the unsavory reviews with a recruiter and they danced around the topic, which didn't help. Professional recruiters own up to their companies negative reviews and offer constructive responses but in this case I got no clear answer, which made me think the reviews are accurate. Pretty depressing to say the least. They drive D&I to the ground there yet there was hardly any diversity among the panelists I interviewed with. The majority came from one of the FAANG companies or an Ivy League school. Thats is not diversity. The general consensus for me was that they basically interview people from all walks of life just to say they have exhausted all of their time with a diverse pool of candidates, which is great in theory but does little for the candidates or hiring manager because the process is very stalled. Plus it made me feel like they were interviewing me to hit a quota and not because of my skills. The comp wasn't exceptional either for the valley and I very much got the impression I was going to be treated like a warm body because it was a contract role. The whole package and experience was not horrible but not appealing.
