      Entretien

I applied online 31 March 17. A few days later, Certent HR sent me a link for a couple Criteria Corporation assessment tests. I took the tests a day or two later over a weekend. The IQ test was timed so a bit stressful. Three business days later I received an e-mail phone interview invitation from HR. I had a conflict with the interview time and asked to reschedule, which they did quickly. The phone interview lasted about 45 minutes and was very conversational. Typical stuff--strengths, weaknesses, preferred activities, resume history, etc. I thought the chat went very well. I sent a thank you message that day, and a message about a week later asking for an update. HR replied that the manager would be deciding which candidates would make the cut to the next interview and that all applicants would be notified next week. A few days later, I received a form e-mail that stated "...we do not have an appropriate position for you at this time." I wrote HR to express my disappointment and thanks for their time again, and asked for feedback, but did not receive a reply. I thought I was well qualified for the position, and I attribute non-selection to either the fact that I wanted to work remotely from the opposite coast, or because my salary requirement was too high. During the phone interview, I was asked what my salary requirements were, and I told the interviewer what I considered my lower bound. She shared the expected salary range, and my lower bound was higher than the upper range. I thought that situation would lead to negotiation, but I think it's likely why I was rejected. Due to the IQ and personality tests and Certent's use of application management SaaS I felt the company viewed me more as a number than a person. I understand why companies use these tools, but this was my first experience with them, so it was a bit of a shock. I wouldn't have been so surprised if Certent was a much larger company with a much greater application burden, but they're on the small side, so I expected more human interaction.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your interest in this position and Certent. Our talent acquisition team agrees that human interaction and personal communications are very important throughout the interview process. With over 90 applications for this role, we strive to keep each candidate apprised of their status and find Jobvite to be a helpful tool to support communications. But we also realize it does not replace the personal touchpoint we’d like to provide to candidates who have interviewed with our team and we will continue to improve. Our Service Above Self philosophy is of utmost importance to everyone we interact with. Our candidate assessments are also a strategic and important piece of the interview process, but certainly not the only thing considered when it comes to selecting new team members, including remote workers. Certent’s business needs, the type of position being filled and a candidate’s skills and experience help us determine the ability to hire employees into remote positions. This approach has helped us add exceptional employees to our Certent team outside of our current office locations.
