Unprofessional and rude. I was shortlisted for the role Junior Behavioural Analyst and was asked to complete a few tasks during the Easter Holidays. I had to put together three ideas for potential case studies as well as a writing sample. They decided not to move forward with my application and I perfectly understand that they may have preferred other candidates. I kindly asked for feedback on my work and my email was ignored. I followed up three working days later and was ignored again. If you are not willing to provide feedback, do not ask for written tasks. I can’t believe I was literally ghosted, especially considering that I spent my Easter Holidays working on what they had requested. Honestly, do not waste your time applying, if this is how they treat candidates, I wonder what kind of respect they hold for their employees. One would think that in the context of a pandemic people would be kind to each other. Apparently I was mistaken.

Three interviews in quick succession as well as a written test. The process was demanding to the point of being a bit weird. I had to interview three times, always during working hours, with one interview occurring with less than 24 hours notice. Normally I wouldn't mind interviewing however many times is necessary, but it felt like they expected me to drop everything to interview on the other side of the city at a moment's notice. I also had to complete a written test in under 24 hours of having received it, during the working week. The three interviewers were at least 20 minutes late to each of my interviews, which was understandable once, but started to feel pretty rude by the third time. In my final interview it felt very clear that I was being probed for information about my current workplace which would be helpful to their business, which was very uncomfortable for me. In the many emails back and forth to arrange all these interviews, my point of contact within the company never once spelled my name correctly. After this pretty laborious and uncomfortable process I received no feedback at all. I felt the company were disrespectful of my time. All in all a negative experience.

      Question 1

Why do you want to work here, what's a consumer behaviour insight you think is interesting at the moment etc, and then lots of questions about my current workplace's processes.

Many thanks for the comment and I'm sorry you had a negative experience. We take the interview process seriously and run a rigorous process to recruit an incredible and diverse team - one with the right experience, skill set and attitude. A three-round process is not abnormal. And as writing is a core competency for all Canvas8 analysts, a written test is a reasonable request. For clarity, any discussion of your employer's processes would have been to understand your experience based on your role in them. For all interviewees, we look to accommodate their schedules and personal circumstance. If you were unable to attend the interview and had informed us of this, we would have arranged an alternative time. My apologies if we were late in starting the interviews. Regarding feedback, this is an entirely fair criticism and we've recently refined our interview feedback to give unsuccessful applicants greater clarity. Thank you again for your comments and best of luck with your continued search.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback on the process. I’m sorry if you did not have a positive experience and I would like to address each of your points. I’m sorry you felt the hiring manager ignored your request for feedback. If at any point, you felt you were not getting a response, the best thing to do is to reach out to any other people involved, and in this instance you also had my contact information. Hands up though, we missed your first email but three working days after you sent your second email, we responded with detailed feedback on your task along with 19 other active applicants. We did ask you to complete the task over the Easter weekend. We were aware, with COVID-19, people would not be travelling and we were sensitive that some candidates are in full-time roles and a four-day period gave them more time to work on the task. We asked applicants to tell us if the timings did not work for them and made it clear throughout the process that support was on hand if anyone had any questions. Our apologies again but missing your email was a simple oversight, not an intentional action. If you would like to chat further, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly. From Bronte

Had an initial phone conversation literally about 10mins after I applied which then set in motion 2 interview and a written test. To be quite honest I was really dreading the interviews as it was a bit of a jump from my current job field and I was expecting a super introspective interview considering the company Canvas8 is. But both interviews felt super relaxed and enjoyable, I had engaging conversations with Sam and Chris in regards to my career history, my long-term goals, different brand strategies amongst many other things. The writing task was tricky but that was due to the pressures I put on myself as a content writer aha and over thinking it but it was great being able to discuss and go through my thought processes with Chris. Both him, Sam and Jess have been fantastic throughout the whole process and truly gave me an insight into the company culture. Every time I went to the office I was greeted well by the wider team too, considering I was nervous and decided to walk it from Old Street instead of taking the bus to Clerkenwell aha. I always thought even if it ended at an interview stage at least I got to have a few number of engaging conversations, however, I have now accepted an offer from the team and look forward to joining them in the coming weeks.

      Question 1

Mostly started off with me talking about myself and my background and then delving into how my experience can be translated into working from Canvas8. There were also scenario questions in the sense of how I would approach different work practices or what strategy I would take. But all in all the questions didn't feel intimidating and it felt that they were trying to get to know the person regardless of my experience.
