Initially I applied online and just waited, but as you soon find out in journalism, you have to stalk their HR. Once I got in touch it was clear that she seemed interested once she asked me where I was from (even though I had clearly stated my nationality in my CV - basically I don't need a work permit because I'm local). A week or two later she contacted me for an interview with a top producer in the company.
The interview was very relaxed and quite casual. Basic questions were asked like why cnbc? why journalism? Nothing to catch you out. Also I was asked to discuss something that caught my eye in the news... I chose a major financial policy move that was recently stated which pleased him, he mentioned how another intern at the interview chose a non-finance headline and how that didn't interest him at all. It makes sense, since its a primarily financial/business media outlet.
The internship was offered on the spot. I was allowed to ask questions. Salary wasn't discussed, since its fixed for interns... but timings and the stress of the job etc were talked about in detail. I said I was ready to work asap and began the next.

It was mostly behavioral, resume-related questions. I found the experience to be positive and pretty standard for the most part. Some about my coursework as well and understanding of the show.

2 step interview, first was more of a vibe check with a group. Second was one on one. Easy, friendly and warm environment for an interview. Didn't feel that nervous but curious about what they look for in the first steps.

I understand the process involves going through an assessment center followed by an interview with the hiring manager, after which the final decision will be made regarding the internship opportunity.
