      Entretien

Worked through head hunter. They told me this company is very particular on who they hire. I was thrilled that they were interested in me since I found the work they do fascinating. They interviewed me for a senior structural/mechanical engineer position to perform structural analysis on heavy industrial equipment, cranes, piping, buildings, etc. The interview went well. I was soon asked to meet with company representative for drinks and discuss an offer. I found this a bit odd/old fashioned but it is a small company never the less. We discussed the offer details and departed. Long story short is I was under a misunderstanding about the 401k eligibility and they cleared up the details. I also was at first verbally told by the company, that the typical bonus was 6-10% but upon asking again a few days later they changed their story and said it was 2-4% and that they had never told me 6-10% despite me writing it down the minute they had told me at the country club a few days prior. They also informed me that it was federal law that requires me to wait 1 year before being allowed to contribute to the company 401k, this is not true, companies select how long they can make employees wait to contribute to a 401k. I told them that due to the requirement to have to wait a year before using the company 401k and the lesser bonus than I had originally hear I would not take the offer. The conversation should have been done at this point, no hurt feelings or ill will towards CMM. But instead of ending the conversation professionally the company representative, goes into a verbal tirade over the phone about me not taking the offer and stringing him along! They were also yelling at me that I should have known the details of the 401k rules. I was shocked because the person yelled at me for quite some time. This was ridiculous behavior and needless to say I did not take the offer. I emailed a higher up manager at the company, explaining the situation. My expectation was that he would apologize for the persons behavior, but instead he blamed me for not communicating or asking the right questions! I don't care what the communication issue is, it is not acceptable to be verbally accosted/yelled at for not taking the offer. I am still in shock that the company representative flipped into a angry yelling tantrum without warning and that the persons boss did not immediately apologize for it after I reached out to him to explain what had just happened. Beware. If you are considering taking a position I would urge you to consider the personalities of the people running this company that you will dealing with on a daily basis. The ironic part is how the company representative was talking to me when we first meet about how your word is everything in their industry and there the representative is caught in several lies a few days later. I wonder how they treat clients considering my experience. Yikes.
