I was contacted by an independent recruiter who was hired by CE Rental to fill this position (I never applied - they reached out to me). The description was definitely much more of an HRIS and Payroll Manager, not solely a Payroll Manager but they were obviously trying to cut costs on salary by titling it only as a Payroll Manager position.
The recruiter reached out to me via email about this "great position" and said that my skill set from my LinkedIn profile matched what they were looking for, and to top it off "this position is primarily remote with occasional in-office days for meetings each month."
Bait and Switch, my friends! I went through a one hour Zoom interview with the HR Director (hiring manager) and a 2.5 hour in-person panel interview with their three primary finance people and the HR Director, only to find out that, "we actually don't offer remote work."
It's 2021! How dare they dangle that carrot! I stated that I wanted at least some flexibility given what I was presented at the very beginning by the recruiter for a job I never applied for but was now invested in given the time spent on interviewing and meeting everyone.
I was told the following day that I was their ideal candidate but that they wouldn't be able to accommodate my "requested flexibility" and therefore I was no longer under consideration for the position. I never requested flexibility, they literally wrote it in their job description presentation that their recruiter sent out.
Please use my bad experience to avoid a situation like this for yourself.
