I received an email from HR. Candidates could have an interview either at the office or virtually. CTO and HR joined the interview. For about 30 minutes, they asked about my previous job experiences, learning from school, and projects. Almost at the end, I was asked my salary expectation, I said a learning opportunity is more important than a higher salary, and I will be satisfied with the industry standard, which is from XX to XX$. Then I couldn't believe what I'd heard. I heard, "well, that is much above what we usually offer. As you know this is a junior position and I think that is too much for XX university graduates." I understand they might think some universities are better and possibly they wanted to hire some other university grads or want to pay differently based on universities. But it was the first time in my life to hear that during an interview and felt so strange. I guess this company purposely hires some university grads (that they think inferior) and pays less to keep their business. It was a very amazing experience. Since the interview, there has been no update from CCX for more than a month. I sent a follow-up, and just heard still they are interviewing people.
