      Entretien

Various phases, with the partners and the managers. They gave me a few cases typical for consulting. A few brain teasers as well, with a fit check in terms of behaviour. All really interesting and with good manners.

Very concise and straight forward. Communication was consistent. I appreciated the transparency through the whole process and the follow-up the hiring manager provided while waiting for HR items to be completed.

Ultimately very unprofessional. I had one phone interview with the recruiter, one Teams interview with the hiring manager, one on-site interview, and another Teams interview. Interviews were casual and all went well until they made a verbal offer and and I asked if there was any room for negotiation in the salary. Hiring manager made the verbal offer on the phone but had no details about the overall compensation package other than the base salary and that I'd be eligible for unlimited vacation. Hiring manager mentioned they didn't like that they were the one extending the offer when they didn't have the details but said they'd see if there was anything else that could be done with the salary and that they'd get back to me within 2 business days. I thanked them and said I was excited about the role. I hadn't heard anything after lunch on the 2nd business day so I followed up with a text saying I was still excited and checking in to see if there was any update on the offer. I said I was available for a phone call. I received a text back stating "Unfortunately I was not able to gain approval for an increase in salary. I do apologize and wish you the best on your search." I was appalled that they were rescinding the offer via a text message. Negotiating salary should not be held against an applicant. It is just a question. The offer wasn't even at the top end of the range that the recruiter quoted. If they couldn't offer more, I understand, and was actually planning to accept, but that should have been a conversation over the phone, not a text message. I called and had to leave a voicemail. I followed up with a text asking if we could discuss things further on the phone and hiring manager wanted to speak the following day. When I asked for their availability the following day I got no response. By 2pm the following day, I hadn't heard anything else so I called and had to leave a voicemail again. I got a text back saying they were in a meeting and that they were rescinding the verbal offer. Incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful to not even give the curtesy of a phone call discussion.
