First there was a brief phone interview. After that, I was asked to come in for a job shadow for the whole day (which I couldn't do because I was already working full time at my previous job) so I agreed to shadow for a half day. I went into the office which was very small and only had 3 small rooms in it (red flag number 1) I followed the manager into the larger room, where there was a group of people standing around having an "inspirational" meeting. After this, the other employees left the building and the manager and I sat down in a coffee shop and he told me all about the grand plan that they have for their entry level reps: If you become a rep and become successful, after less than a year, you can manage your own team of reps! Sounds too good to be true right? After that, I went with the manager and we drove around to random businesses, trying to sell products from a pretty well known company (I was not told anything about selling products through said company, red flag number 2) I just thought it was strange that they never mentioned that to me before. After a couple hours, the manager and I went back to the office, where I asked more questions and figured out that this is a commission only sales job, and gas for your car is not compensated. When I asked about this, I was told that there is not much driving involved in the job, you park your car and pretty much walk as much as you can (red flag number 3). I asked him a few more general questions, thanked him for his time, and went on my way. I did get an offer the next day, but I turned it down.
