First contact with a recruiter was on May 14th. After the screen, I was put in touch with the hiring manager. The hiring manager leaves a week after our interview but ushers me along the hiring process. The next part of the interview is a presentation/assignment and a 3.5-4 hour long interview. I complete the assignment and have that long day of interviews chatting with various senior stakeholders for the role and the feedback I receive is largely positive. I am told that there are some other candidates they have to go through and that they will get back to me as soon as they can. A few weeks go by and it's now June 25th, I am scheduled to chat on an executive level. I have the conversation and since it's quickly approaching July 4th, the final decision wouldn't be made until after that. Also some context since the hiring manager left, and they hadn't back filled or had anyone else in the role, I was chatting directly with the executive level role about this position. It's July 19th, almost a month after my last interview with the executive - and another recruiter reaches out and tells me that my last recruiter left a week prior. I am told a week later that I didn't get the role, and then called back an hour after that call telling me that they wanted to extend a verbal offer because of the positive feedback I received from the team. However, now that they're hiring someone else for that role, and this person would essentially be my "manager" - I was still ok because I wasn't necessarily in contention for a role higher than the one I interviewed for and wasn't going to be managed by the executive anyway. I proceed with the hoops and continual meetings with the executive and now the person they've hired. Another 2 weeks pass because while the person they've hired is on boarded, they go on a 2 week vacation afterwards. Until September 14th - they have finally reached out and have rescinded the offer because the now - "hiring manager" needs to get a "lay of the land" before making any decisions about hiring. You can imagine the colossal waste of time this was. Considering the amount of turn over and the lack of transparency in this 4 month long slog of a hiring process - I would definitively not recommend Box as a place to grow your career.

We sincerely apologize for the unacceptable experience you had during the interview process. We read every review and take this feedback very seriously, especially the feedback regarding the communication provided and the time in which you invested in our process. We know that going through any hiring process and potentially being considered for multiple roles can be a lengthy process and we appreciate that you spent the time speaking to our various leaders. However, no matter what the outcome, our goal is that all candidates have a positive experience and that our hiring process is a positive reflection of Box's culture. It is clear that we fell well short of the bar we set for ourselves during your interview process. Please know we have addressed this situation internally within our hiring teams. As the leader of the team, I would welcome the chance to talk to you so that I can apologize directly and make sure we can learn from this. If you are open to that, please contact me (David Moore) at dmoore@box.com or send me your contact information and I will follow up.
