The interview process began with an email from the recruiter, Mubarak, requesting a time to schedule for our initial phone screen. The phone screen took place the following day, took about an hour, and was one of the most informative and engaging phone screens I've had the pleasure to be apart of. The questions I was asked were very standard behavioral-based questions, just to get a feel for my skill set and my management style. Mubarak was extremely helpful, providing me a look into the company and the position, and exhibited a true sense of passion and dedication to Square that got me extremely excited to continue onto the next part of the interview process.
This took place 3 days later online via a virtual video interview, and consisted of three thirty-minute interviews totaling an hour and a half in length. The interviews utilize the STAR approach, and Mubarak informed me of that ahead of time, so I felt very prepared to answer the questions using the appropriate format and I felt all of the questions were very well connected to the position I was applying for. What really impressed me the most is that, knowing that I was coming to this role from a different industry, I was paired with interviewers who worked in that prior industry who could really get a feel for what I could bring to the table in terms of skills and competencies, something I haven't experienced in other interviews but was very impressed by.
Unfortunately I received an auto-generated rejection email the next business day (after the weekend and holiday so I appreciated the quick response) but was a bit surprised that I didn't move forward, so I did follow up with an email to the recruiter to determine the reasons why I was not considered for a final interview. Had I made it to round three, I would have interviewed with two of the senior leaders in the department.
Again, I don't have enough positive things to say about my experience working with Mubarak and will be sure to keep my eyes out for future opportunities with Square and Cash App as the company continues it's incredible expansion and growth into 2021.
