      Entretien pour Sales Associate/Geek Squad

Le processus a pris 1 jour. J'ai passé un entretien chez Best Buy (Moreno Valley, CA) en oct. 2009

      Entretien

I applied online for both the Sales Associate and Geek Squad position. This took about 1 hour to complete and consisted of very simple questions. The next day I got a call asking me to come to an interview in a week. I showed up and there were about 15 others waiting for their interview. Much to my surprise it was a group interview. We were all asked to sit in an office while two Best Buy representatives talked to us for about 15 minutes then handed us some papers to fill out. We were given 15 minutes to complete as many questions as we could on a 20-question worksheet. Most of the questions asked you to go into as much detail as possible, so of course no one finished half of the thing. I only answered 2 full questions but I felt that they were quality answers. After the 15 minutes was up, we were then selected at random and asked to pick a number between 1 and 20. We were then asked to answer a question they had on a piece of paper they had (exact same questions on the worksheet but ordered differently). After answering the question, we were told to give our 3 weaknesses. There were about 5 people in front of me (selected at random) so I had time to think about what I could give for my 3 weaknesses. Most people were struggling to give more than 2. When my turn came around, I was asked to give an example of a previous job where I had to come into work but it conflicted with something else I had to do. I told them about my previous job working at a Sears where I was required to work on Black Friday but also had to go to my family reunion on the same day for Thanksgiving (it was more of a 2-day event). I told them basically I chose to work on that day because I valued my job more. After that I gave them my 3 weaknesses. I like to keep up with technology, so it tends to burn a hole in my wallet, I don't like driving in traffic and finally I am too passive sometimes. (Looking online now, it seems that they don't really care what your weaknesses are, they are just looking at how you go about answering them.) After about an hour, the interview was over and we were told that we would get a phone call within a week if we had a 2nd 1:1 interview. And if that went well, we would have a 3rd 1:1 interview. And finally, if that went well, we would be trained Oct 26-28 (non-negotiable). As I was leaving the store, 3 kids bolted out with a stolen PSP. Another Best Buy employee and I gave chase resulting in them getting in the car. Luckily I got their licenses plate number and gave it to the employee. +1 interview points eh? Today I got a call from Best Buy scheduling me a 2nd interview on Tuesday. This will be a 1:1 interview that I will be more prepared for. They haven't told me which job they are interviewing me for, but I can only assume it is for a Sales Associate position seeing as how Best Buy just laid off 60% of their Geek Squad. Update: Just had my 2nd interview. It went really well and lasted only about 15 minutes. I can't quite remember any of the questions, but I seemed to have just about the perfect answer for each one. There was a new guy who didn't seem very enthusiastic about being at work, and there was the same lady that was at my first interview. They said that if I had a 3rd interview they would call me within a week. Update 2: Didn't get a 3rd interview. Not sure why. My 2nd interview was almost perfect.

      Entretien

Interview was relatively seamless and convenient, called in on very short notice and had to call a favour just to make it. Questions were basic and general, lots of professionalism. However, this mostly applied to in person. Phone calls had generally noisy backgrounds, I had to wait nearly half an hour before I could actually be interviewed (and I made it there early!) and interestingly enough, I had to be interviewed twice before I made it in. Generally a not-very-well organized but professional process.
