Entretien pour Public Policy Director - Climate and Energy

      Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 3 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez Bay Area Council en juin 2023

      Entretien

First asked to provide a 100-200 word response to a question via email. Then interviewed with the COO. Advanced to the final round and interviewed with 2 more individuals, separately (SVP of Public Policy & Chief of Membership & Development). A lot of the interviews were repetitive and could have been better organised if candidates were interviewing with multiple C-level officers rather than with each 1:1. Sent thank you and follow-up emails post-interviews and never heard back from them. I found this utterly unprofessional. Ultimately, I'm glad I did not get the job, because I would not want to work for an employer that did not respect my time. Throughout the process, I asked what exactly the role entailed, and the answer varied based on the individual I spoke to. Additionally, it seems like they don't even believe in the policy positions they take, and some of their positions are actually incredibly harmful to the environment and help corporations lobby against necessary environmental regulations. Greenwashing at it's finest. 0/10 would recommend. Finally, I think it's absolutely wild the salary range for a Director-level position in the Bay Area was $80-$100K. That is well below market value, even for a non-profit.

      Questions d'entretien [3]

      Question 1

Many of our largest member companies, including in the tech, airline and biotech space, have committed to get to net-zero, often with aggressive timelines. While they are global companies, they have significant operations in California. Ironically, while California has professed a vigorous commitment to carbon reduction, in reality these companies are having a much more difficult time getting their California fleets, campuses and facilities to decarbonize here than in states that are vigorously opposed to decarbonization. California just makes it so hard to do anything, even when it accomplishes a shared goal with companies that want to decarbonize. How would you propose to assemble our related members, determine the right course of action, create and build a coalition, and work to secure changes in California to make it significantly easier for our members to decarbonize?

      Question 2

Are you a people person? Are you well-organised? Are you a team player?

      Question 3

Sometimes we have to go to Sacramento and do policy advocacy on bills that we might think could be done better or we might personally disagree with; are you okay with going forward and being a soldier for the team, even though it's not the exact public policy you would personally prefer?
