      Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 1 semaine. J'ai passé un entretien chez Baselane (Toronto, ON) en nov. 2025

      Entretien

I went through a three-step interview process with Baselane: an initial conversation with the VP of Partnerships, a second call with a Co-Founder, and a third round involving a detailed case study outlining partnership strategy, acquisition approach, and go-to-market recommendations to the panel. While the first two conversations were positive and seemed promising, the case study stage raised concerns. The level of depth requested—covering strategy, outreach, and execution—felt more aligned with a paid consulting engagement than a standard interview assignment. Throughout the process, I started getting the sense that the company was more interested in gathering ideas than in evaluating candidates for an actual hire. Shortly after submitting and presenting the case study, I was told they were “moving forward with another candidate.” However, the same day, the company reposted the position publicly. This reinforced the feeling that the role may not have been genuinely active and that candidate insights were being leveraged without intent to hire. Advice to Candidates: Don't waste your time Advice to Employer: Using candidates’ work without clear hiring intent signals a lack of respect for their time and expertise, and ultimately harms the company’s reputation. (Shameful tactic)

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the interview process didn’t land well for you, and we appreciate you bringing this perspective forward. Case studies are an important part of our evaluation process since this role requires strategic thinking, structured problem solving, and the ability to build partnerships from the ground up. These exercises help us understand how candidates approach real challenges, and they also give candidates a clearer sense of the type of work involved. That said, candidates should always have clarity around scope and expectations. If this assignment felt heavier or misaligned, we’ll review how we frame and communicate case studies moving forward. Regarding the timing of the decision and the reposting of the role, hiring needs can shift quickly in a scaling business. Still, we understand how this could create the impression that the process wasn’t genuine. We’re taking steps to improve transparency, so candidates have a better understanding of where things stand throughout the process. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to continue strengthening the candidate experience.
