      Entretien

After being screened by a recruiter and completing correctly the coding challenges at home - I took a day off to attend an interview day on site. Quite a disorganised and disrespectful group of people interviewed me one by one.. interview was not structured, so there was duplication and complete randomness of the questions. It’s not a fair process and a tribunal case is imminent if they keep going like this.... If that’s the recruitment process (which should be a branding tool in itself and they should be trying to impress you), I don’t want to imagine what the treatment is when you actually start!

J'ai postulé en personne. Le processus a pris 2 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez Babylon (Londres, Angleterre) en déc. 2018

      Entretien

Started with a phone interview with the head of technical services where I went over my successes over the past year. The head of IT was engaging and asked (what i thought were) the right questions and I genuinely enjoyed the conversation. I was successful and proceeded to the next stage. The face to face interviews were slightly different. Started off with two developers dissecting my CV, line by line. It was more of a 'explain this in detail' and 'what did this entail' type of questioning. They both seemed very talented & switched on and really loved what they did and loved working for Babylon. However, they were completely disengaged, on their MacBooks typing away doing their own thing and it felt like they had better places to be, they didn't attempt to delve deeper into my past achievements, it felt like it was just me telling them what I achieved and I didn't really have the chance to shine, it was dissapointing. The next interview was with the head of technical services and again, this was slightly odd, it was brief and it felt like a 'You've got the job, this is your chance to ask me anymore questions' type of interview, which is amusing, considering I wasn't offered the position. Again, didn't feel like I was given the chance to shine. The next interview was with my peer, again, disengaged on a MacBook, and was quite uninspiring, I question whether or not he had the competence to be in this position. Each time I answered the question, I tried to understand what his thoughts were on the topic - it was quite evident he didn't have any. I would go as far to say he was asking me questions which his manager had asked him but couldn't answer, disappointing! Final interview was with a project manager, not much to discuss there, just a chat about the company and to see if I had any last questions about Babylon. I waited quite a while for the outcome of the interviews and was eventually told I was unsuccessfull but given no feedback as to why. I feel a bit bitter after the whole process, for two reasons; Firstly, the lack of feedback is incredibly frustrating and I don't understand why it wasn't provided. Secondly, I went away feeling I wasn't given a chance to actually show them how competent I am in the area I applied for. Obviously I would think this, but I thought I would be a great fit for the role and the company. For anyone applying, I wouldn't want to put you off, the company are working on cool technologies and looks like they've got some incredible developers & AI specialists to learn from, make sure you push yourself in the interview and don't expect them to ask leading questions.
