      Entretien pour Software Engineer

      Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. J'ai passé un entretien chez Atlassian en juin 2021

      Entretien

I applied to two positions online and then was contacted to set up a call with a recruiter about a week later. The call was a pretty standard "get to know you" call, but the recruiter wanted me to interview for a position on a different team than the ones I had applied for, which she felt better fit my background. I decided that was fine even though I really want to move on from the tech stack that I have the most experience with (C#/.NET). I then had a technical screen over Zoom where I worked with an engineer to solve a pretty straightforward problem. The engineer was super friendly and helpful and I thought the interview went really well. We had a pretty good conversation afterwards. My recruiter contacted me about a week after the technical screen to say that I passed and the engineer really enjoyed talking to me, but they filled the position with another candidate. The recruiter said they wanted to stay in contact as they open up new positions "in the next few weeks". I thanked her for the transparency and figured I would wait a week or two and then continue to the next stage of the process. Unfortunately, I haven't heard back from the recruiter almost 3 months later. I sent a follow up email a few weeks after her email and asked about new roles, but that was ignored. It seems kind of silly to me that they would just ghost someone that is already halfway through the recruiting process. I can't help but feel like the recruiter only contacted me because my background matched the tech stack for the other role they had me apply for, and they don't believe I can pick up different technologies. If that really is the case then I think they need to do a better job at realizing how easily transferable baseline computer science/software development knowledge is to different tech stacks.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

It was working through a pretty straightforward problem with another engineer. I liked it much more than your typical DS&A interviews. No need to know a bunch of random algorithms that you're never going to use in your day to day job.

Recruiter reached out to me then ghosted in the middle of trying to set up a meeting. Very disrespectful of my time. Just as well, how a company treats candidates is usually a good indicator of how they treat employees
