Entretien
I interviewed at Atlassian onsite in August and was rejected after the final round. From application to finally hearing back the process stretched 10 weeks.
I can understand to some extent this being a lengthy process, but it felt like the latter parts were mishandled and left me feeling frustrated by the delay. Toward the end I would've preferred to have been told much earlier than I hadn't gotten the gig than be strung along.
The strange thing was, the communication had been fairly good up until the last part of the process -- I would have been more than happy to accept a general email the day (or a week) after my interview to all candidate just letting everyone know that there was a high load of applications and that there would be some delay. Instead I didn't hear anything for over a month.
There were three stages before the final round onsite. A pre-screen, a coding test, and a phone interview. Most of these were fine and manageable for a 2/3 year comp-sci person to manage.
There were three interviews on the day. The 'open' interview I felt was conducted poorly. Given it's an open interview there has something to be said for a lack of structure, but it wasn't clear how much the interviewer had seen any of my projects previously and thus how much depth to explain each project. Did they want from scratch overviews, did they want explanations on the development process, did they want information on the project management process? None of this was clear or prompted. As a result it felt very uneasy and I don't feel like I represented myself well at all.
The coding test was fine as was the technical knowledge test.
The final thing I was frustrated with was that I initially lodged applications for more than one role but was never told what role I was interviewing for! Which was perhaps the most bizarre thing about the whole process.
Didn't get it in the end but they did give me long and length feedback which was nice. They encouraged me to apply again, too.
