It was an incredibly easy interview (with pretty much no questions asked apart from whether I had any experience editing, what academic styles I had experience editing, and how I approached giving constructive criticism) — BUT they did not disclose all the relevant details prior to the interview, and it quickly became obvious that, although you may be able to build up a portfolio if you take a post with them, you need to BE VERY CAREFUL about giving them ANY identifying information or payments without ensuring they can go through the appropriate professional and legal channels (their policies are apparently to record the interview, to ask you to sign a contract with unfavourable conditions that posits a 300 EUR breach of contract fine if you leave before your trial period is up, to ask for a 10 EUR onboarding contribution fee if they offer you a contract — of course you can avoid ever disclosing or paying any of this if you're simply 'happy to' do anything they ask 'as soon as' they send you their invoice through the company account, send you the details of the secure identity verification and transcript sharing systems they use etc.!).

It's a SCAM. Don't waste your time! Please, even if you're desperate for a portfolio. I had an interview with an HR and two other persons (no presentation, they didn't say a word either). The HR asked me to donate 10 euros, and barely listened to your answers to their scripted questions. It felt like an AI speaking. The interview was recorded, I wonder if it's not to have "proof" that you agree orally to their sketchy terms. I was asked to start right away, with zero right to any vacation for 30 days. I needed to be free for meetings every Sunday. Stay away from those scammers and report this online fraud to your country's government website. That kind of website earning money on volunteers' naivety or despair should be closed. Thanks to Glassdoor, I realized that they could ask me to send 300 euros to the CEO's personal bank account. Don't fall for it.

It was a really sketchy process, unfortunately. The questions felt very scripted and the interviewers barely spoke English (so I doubt they had any idea whether my answers were satisfactory or not) and there was no follow up to any of the things I said. The part that made me even more suspicious, though, was the fact that they wouldn't answer any of my questions about the type of time commitment required (they said it would be explained AFTER I was hired) and what was their funding strategy to justify requesting volunteers to "donate" 10EUR on the first month (on top of their time). When I told them I found this unusual for a no-profit that should be receiving public funding, they said "ok, so you aren't willing to do that" and when I pushed back they simply didn't answer. This DEFINITELY felt like a scam.
