      Entretien

An incredibly UNPROFESSIONAL interview process that felt like a scam. I got contacted by an Amex recruiter on Indeed saying I would be a good fit for their “Engineer I” position. I looked it over and then applied directly, afterwards sending a follow up message on Indeed. I never got a reply on Indeed, but did eventually get contacted for a screening by the same recruiter. She did not seem to recall ever messaging me when she asked how I heard about the position. I should also mention she was late to the meeting by 15 minutes. I had to send a follow up email asking if she needed to reschedule, after which she joined shortly after (having supposedly joined the wrong meeting initially). Hardly went over my qualifications, just a few basic HR questions and then set up my first interview… at 8pm. Yes, my interview was scheduled at 8pm (my local time) the following week because it was with some team members in India. I thought this was strange since it is local position, but okay. Come interview time, 2 people were supposed to join, but only 1 did. They then asked me to get on camera but did not do so themselves. They hardly asked me anything about my experience in relation to the role. It was 30 minutes asking about development experience FOR AN OPS ROLE. Based on the job description, I asked what kind of role this was, to which I was told it was, indeed, “Ops.” I met most of the qualifications, but these were never asked about. Of course, I also had some development and scripting experience anyway, and even showed the interview my current projects. I also connected to my AWS server to visually answer a couple of basic SQL and Linus questions. Didn’t seem to make any impression on whomever this person I was talking was. I got the rejection email the next morning. I suspect they were looking to actually hire a developer who they could overwork and underpay, not a support member. Especially since they were “looking to accelerate the hiring process.” So many red flags and the only people I talked to were both unprofessional and impersonal, more than any other interview I’ve ever had. Horribly robotic and dishonest process.
