I applied on LinkedIn and received an inquiry fairly soon after submission. I was scheduled for an interview with the recruiter which went well. I was then scheduled with the hiring manager three weeks later. That interview seemed to go well and I was told that there would be several more interviews with others within the department. I immediately followed up with a "thank you" email. After that, I never heard a word from anyone. I reached out twice for updates and received NO response. Not only was I being considered for a VP-level role, but I was also an employee referral. There is no excuse for lack of communication.
