One of the recruiters contacted me and told that the team is interested in my profile. I agreed to take an interview. The interview was scheduled the following week and no details about the interviewer was shared. On the call, I was informed that the interviewer was not from the team I was supposed to be interviewing for. Nevertheless, most of the technical questions were easy and I noted that the interviewer did not have an understanding of the process followed for some of the scoring models discussed. I handle these on a daily basis in my current role and was able to explain it in detail. These questions were followed by a few behavioral questions, and I modelled my answers around the 14 leadership principles. It was a really positive interview where none of the questions went unanswered. I got a response from the recruiter the following day that Amazon would be pursuing others candidates for the role. With my qualifications matching the role, and the interview going well, not making it to the next round was definitely disappointing. But what baffled me is the way the interview process is handled at AWS. If I have one suggestion to Amazon, it is that, please ensure that the candidate speaks to the hiring manager for technical screening and not members from other teams who have no clue what the role entails. I say this because when I pressed on how this role interacts with other teams, the interviewer gave me a very generic answer.

I applied online. After about a week or two, a recruiter from Amazon phoned me and we spoke for about 45 minutes. He was very pleasant to speak to, we covered some basics around the role and its expectations, and he laid out the next steps in the interview process, including the STAR method. The second step was a line manager interview where he focused on details of past projects and lessons / outcomes. The next step (which I didn't make it to) would have consisted of several interviewers asking different types of questions, and at this stage you don't need to satisfy each interviewer. I presume after this they give you a result. Much of what is documented online aligns with my experiences.
