Had a great in-person conversation with a member of the team and the director of the group, and both sides seemed interested in pursuing the role further. I sent a follow-up note thanking them both and reiterating my position. After a week of not hearing anything, I sent a second note following up. After an additional week, I sent one more, and still never heard anything.
It's okay to not be interested in a candidate, but if you've indicated you'd like to move to the next steps and change your mind mid-process, a brief response letting them know you're no longer interested is a very helpful, professional way to handle things.
