Holy mackerel, what a nightmare. In 20+ years of IT experience, I've never encountered a less professional interview. Prior to the phone interview, I took a skills test and did well. I figured the phone interview would allow me some time to ask questions about the company, the role, the software applications being developed, etc.
28 minutes into the 45 minute conversation (and with constant interruptions), I finally asked if there would be some time for me to ask my questions. Put off, the interviewer said he needed to continue asking his questions and we could get to mine later. Sorry, but an interview is a two way street. I am being interviewed, but I am also doing the interviewing. That is, conversations are two-way streets -- not interrogations. The good news is that once I did ask a few of my questions (about their processes and SDLC), I got the answer I needed with a curt "If you are asking about development processes, this isn't the position for you. Thanks for your time, good bye."
You couldn't pay me enough to work here. My advice to AB? Drop the New York attitude if you want to move to the South. Or don't, and watch how difficult it is to hire good developers. Treat people with some dignity and respect.
