Writing this from a place of truth and experience and it’s up to the person interviewing if it’s really worth it. Being and experienced marketer with most of this working with developers and technical users there is a reason this job title has recently changed to growth, why it’s been on the market for almost 8-9 months now and why they adorn understand what developer marketing is. Someone who worked at the company reached out and warned me and I hope this helps someone else. They can’t find anyone to take the job. It’s been up for over 8/9 months (started under different title) and anyone in marketing to developers can read the red flags from start to finish. The interview process was over 5 months. The CMO canceled last minute at least 4 times, forcing the recruiter to make all sorts of excuses for her. Clearly she is not invested in this person as a team member so that immediately is a tell tale sign they really don’t care and that behavior from a senior leader is just plain unprofessional and rude. Every excuse was made for her by the recruiter. Someone else that was part of the interview process also “forgot” about the interview the first time and then was completely was a no show the second time. Eventually they showed up annd anre probably the one who wrote the 5 star review on GD. And in fairness the interview went well but the person had no clue about the position or responsibilities and said she needed someone to “take work off her plate” so was hoping this person would start soon. And they hired an outside marketing agency to do the work but warning they are part of the interview and “decision making process for the CMO” so beware as they stated they “influence” the team on who to hire -a red flag. Then they said they said they have full autonomy to make decisions on product and advise engineering on what to build . Second red flag. They also stated that this person would be their “inside” person who had to meet the KPIs and the one to “fight the battles internally” because don’t sit on the inside to influence other teams and this person they were “counting on to do that for them.” Seriously? So their scapegoat internally if the campaign fails. There is zero commitment to supporting this new person. The interview process is not only sloppy but misdirected when they have to cover for senior leadership and others for not showing up. It’s one thing to have an emergency last minute it’s another thing to have this 4 times in a row . If you can’t make an interview 4 times and you outright state as an outside agency you have more influence because the CMO trusts you to make a decision on a person to be your fall guy internally, the person who actually does the work as a company hire then you are in the wrong place. They are also very confused on their product and launched one recently in 3 months where developers are complaining about it all over Reddit. After 5 months it was time to walk away. The recruiters have a tough job making excuses for everyone who is part of that interview process. Certainly not fair to them this company can not get it together. You will also be doing the job of 5 people in one job. They do not understand developers. The job market is tough but taking this position may be a serious mistake. I The agency alone was pompous during the interview so knew then and based on their exact words of being their “internal influencer, the one who has to meet the numbers for them” it’s not the right job or company. The pay is well below the benchmark for the role and responsibilities so they don’t understand the job or market. Again it’s a tough market and some may have to settle and take it but remember they are also settling on you because they can’t find anyone who wants to take the job. They sent a survey after the process. Glassdoor is a better place to share the real feedback. Not making this up. Everything in quotes above were exact words used. Other content is based on this experience and certainly can be deemed one person’s opinion but buyer beware as they say. If you are looking for a solid team, great support and mentoring from executive leadership and are ready to be the fall guy it may work out for you. Many others before you as I have learned now walked away. Wishing those who pursue BOL. You will need it.

What are your weaknesses? What do you do when management is not happy with your performance? Tell me about a time you had to justify your metrics to upper management. (Yes these really were questions word for word)
