I initially applied for an Associate Account Manager position and was contacted within a week for a phone interview. During the conversation it was explained that they were looking for candidates that had substancial experience in affiliate marketing as they were moving forward with a number of clients that would need to be quickly assigned. I was then asked if I'd like to interview for an Associate position which would give me the necessary background to be able to move into different positions when it was appropriate.
I had two Skype interviews with Associate Directors and a homework assignment that was an example of work I would be doing. The interviews were very straightforward and felt more like a conversation, making it very easy to discuss my background. The homework assignment was a way to gauge whether or not the tasks I would be doing were something I would enjoy. It was far too easy to over think this assignment - especially being worried it was a pass/fail situation. I did not receive feedback on the submission.
During the wait to find out if I would move to the final interview, and when the time by which they thought they would know passed, I was communicated with and told the decision was not yet made. This made me far less anxious for the end result.
I was incredibly disappointed to be told that I would not be moving to the final round due to my location. AP did not have a need for an Associate in my time zone. The email was very apologetic and I felt like I was being valued as a candidate in all the subsequent correspondence. In the final email, I was told that if a position was available, they would contact me. This portion of the interview took place over the course of 3 weeks.
Three months later AP reached out via email and said that there was a need for an Associate on a west coast client and inquired if I was interested in this opportunity. As I had already gone through the first two rounds, I was able to learn about the role and then move to a final interview. I had a group video chat with the three people that had spoken with me about this opportunity and the following day I received an offer.
The interview experience I had with AP was indicative of how valued all of the employees are - I was a candidate and felt confidant that they would reach out if something was available. Most other companies would not keep someone in mind for over three months and reach out when an opportunity arose.
