Avantages

As one of the leading tech media companies in APAC, e27 is a great place if you are 1) new to and interested in the startup ecosystem or 2) if you want to extend your connections to all different stakeholders in this space e27 provides a startup working environment where everyone works closely together and you will hardly find yourself single-handedly working on a task or project. You will find most of your learning from hands-on experience working on tasks/projects, from your colleagues, from the content done by e27 as well as from speaking with leaders in the tech/startup space.

Inconvénients

While you are working on your tasks/projects, do expected to be looped in to support other interesting tasks/projects of your colleagues/other teams. With the right accountability and responsibility, this should not be an issue.

Avantages

Generally, if you are looking for an entry to the Southeast Asian tech startup community, it provides a great start. You'll get to meet relevant people in the industry and the company's name is still quite reputable. It can be a great door-opener. Excellent flexibility and WFH arrangement. Great travel opportunities especially if you're in their content team. Decent salary but ONLY if you're based in the Philippines or Indonesia. In Singapore, you'll be making freshgrad level of salary despite your qualifications and workload.

Inconvénients

Management is an absolute MESS. When I left, the HR lead position was held by someone who is doing 2-3 functions at the same time. HR matters being put to the side all the time, especially when they are doing their annual event Echelon Singapore (which is absurd and highly indicates that the system is not running). A good example would be how they do annual reviews. It's supposed to happen in March and September, but when I left in June, the March review still hadn't happened. There were years when they only got to do just one. Managerial decisions are often based on FOMO and one of the co-founder's whimsy. He changes minds easily, especially when his peers write about something they do on LinkedIn. He can make a decision to do A one day, then, weeks later, changes his mind and scold team members publicly for doing A. A weird and unhealthy obsession with AI. The management sees AI as a panacea and goes beyond treating it as a tool. It is seen as an authority instead. Whenever we face issues and try to talk to the management, their solution is to "just use AI" to figure it out. It is used to mask laziness and incompetence. Non-transparency in many areas, inlcuding performance and salary. My team has team members with excellent performances but there are always reasons to not increase their salary or give them bonus. I have also seen people leaving because they are being given job descs different to what they're being hired for (e.g COO having to do sales and marketing). Last but not least, employee departure is often not announced. I have had instances when I'd contact a team member only to find out that it's their last day in the company.
