I’m deeply sorry that you felt there was a lack of sympathy during this layoff. As if losing your job wasn’t hard enough, to have it happen without feeling that connection with leadership must have made it even worse. Executing the reduction in headcount in 2019 was undoubtedly the most difficult thing I have had to do in my career. At the time, we grew our team too fast, and needed to change course to operate the business more efficiently to continue to achieve our mission. All of that was my fault. Navigating these conversations was a first for me, and doing it over Zoom with a distributed team made it even harder. On the other side, our team has worked incredibly hard to ensure that the equity and effort of all WorkStep employees (past and present) will yield outsized value. Now that we’re fortunate to be in a place where we’re profitable and again growing the team quickly, if there is interest on your end, I would be more than happy to see if there is an opportunity for you at WorkStep.
