The managers don’t care about staff well-being a lot of the time. The upper admin cut hours yet take on extra staff who add stress and pressure without really being realistic or informed about what floor staff face. There is no disclosure training, daily racial abuse from locals and we are told to just smile it away and not think about it. They will expect you to train for your promotion then make you wait months until they decide they need you. All the while you are taking on more responsibilities and expected to go above and beyond your position/ ridiculously low pay. When you do get promoted they switch your holiday pay system and don’t explain it to you. I never took holidays until my second last month, and requested off 2 weeks (I had worked there over a year). They emailed me and chased me down for money a month after I had finished working there. Bear in mind that I had given more than 2 months notice period, yet they thought it appropriate to threaten legal action for a payroll mistake they made. I am one of at least 4 ex employees that they have done this to. The fact that they are so profit driven is disgusting - they claim to be a good employer and have sustainability as a core value yet the polyester uniforms are made in sweatshops. The cultural appropriation is an embarrassment, especially when they have so few international employees. Benefits are only for office staff yet the floor staff are the most in contact with customers e.g. paying for training and language lessons (which would make for better employees??)
