Avantages

Nice CEO, Good swag (get the backpack).

Inconvénients

Product Management (Software R&D) is impossible to appease. As a Software Engineer, you'll be working in a semi-hostile environment as Product Management will badmouth you every chance they get. The User Stories are always incomplete, but expectations will be high. The Team Leads do not understand how to do estimates, they choose the lowest estimate, and in many cases you are stuck with it. If you go over, which you probably will because it wasn’t your estimate in the first place – you will be docked in your quarterly review. The bonus structure, specifically in Software R&D, is haphazard at best. Depending on the project you are assigned to, your work/life balance might suck and your bonus will be worse than those who barely put in 40 hours a week. Also, get used to writing quarterly goals and being evaluated on them. The Project Management group is largely self-serving, and will throw you under the bus at a moment's notice. I really did not want to write this review, but I felt as though I needed to do so. This is seriously one of the worst jobs I have ever had. Micromanaging galore, far too many meetings, pointless team exercises, ridiculous mandatory "show & tell" gatherings at the end of every sprint, and people that shouldn’t even be there.

We've honestly thought a lot about your feedback. As one of the fastest growing companies in Utah we enjoy a fast-paced environment with competing priorities, and a noble mission. Packsize is a solution supplier (hardware, software, and services in the on-demand packaging arena) and software is a key strategic element of that integrated solution! While some might not take to quarterly goals, we love that our bonus program rewards us quarterly in relationship to achieving goals and hitting targets. Then later in the year, the bonus program rewards us again as it relates to company results. We celebrate our accomplishments often, at a team and company level, and provide competitive pay including bonus opportunities at most levels in the company. As part of that celebration, we ask our associates to be engaged and be part of the successes. As a final thought, when it comes to product management, one of the most important aspects is making sure the company is making the right products in the right markets, and key to that success is a strong relationship between R&D and Product Management. If that relationship was less than ideal from your point of view, we are truly saddened to learn you didn't have a stellar experience, but we are confident in saying that 2019 will be our best year yet.

Avantages

Everyone at the lower levels of employment are fantastic to work with.

Inconvénients

Middle management and above lack understanding of what the company actually does. Ideas are pulled from books being read by middle managers, randomly implemented without context of how they can be implemented in the specific departments operational environment and lower level leadership are instructed to implement these newfound ideas without any direction, or any instruction on how they will actually improve efficiency or productivity for the workforce. The company does not promote from within anymore. Often times, internal candidates who apply to postings for new roles do not get acknowledged. Middle management and above are convinced bringing in external candidates is the right way to go. Company has undergone several “restructurings” over the last couple of years since the new Global leadership team has taken over. Many people are let go during these restructurings in an extremely unprofessional manner. Company is fumbling through a major transition currently. My advice to any potential job seeker is to avoid this company. Micromanaging is the name of the game at this point with Packsize.
