Avantages
NORCOM was supposed to be a stepping stone for me on my way to graduate school and many years later I am still there. NORCOM is a young agency, only been around for 10 years but there has been so much growth, change and maturity in the organization over the years, it has been amazing! The people I work with are like a family to me. We all are there to help make a change in this world one phone call at a time, one radio transmission at a time. We have long, tough days, and we have some really fun days! When we have a storm or a large event that involves complex challenges, that is when everyone steps up even more and shines. I am so proud to work with such amazing warriors that sacrifice time with their own families to help others. Regarding my own professional development and those who I work with, NORCOM has a really unique way of going about things and how they carry out their mission which I love. They really try to offer opportunities for employees at all levels to build on their skills, abilities and to be able to grow individually. There is very little red tape unlike most government agencies. If you are willing to put in the work, you can do anything at NORCOM. We have cross teams, task forces, project teams, any sort of team you could think of with any sort of topic. This is not only to help everyone be a part of an ancillary team if they want to, but to help each of us employees to have ownership and input into the agency. At lastly, NORCOM is viewed as an anomaly in the industry for its culture. As I mentioned above, this is mainly in part of the way that the leaders try to include everyone in teams and in decisions. I highly recommend NORCOM if you are looking to work somewhere where you feel you are making an impact on the world. We literally save lives and we do it the fastest and with the best technology than any other dispatch agency in the area, maybe in the nation.
Inconvénients
The days can be long but there is flexibility in the shifts. We start every two hours and work 4-10 hour shifts. This allows 3 days a week to be able to spend time with your friends or family.
