Avantages

I like the location and views from LBL. I also appreciate how they promote alternative transportation and have a general altruistic mission. There are many academic seminars and forward thinking research projects happening on campus, both at LBL and UC Berkeley.

Inconvénients

Working at LBL is what I think it might be like to work at a nonprofit: high pressure, low pay, underappreciated. At first I was ok with it, because I thought the goal was admirable and worthwhile. However, over time I realize that there is a hierarchy here. Too many project managers, not enough engineers on a project. EETD does not value engineers. The department treats engineers like technicians, and only values program managers.

Avantages

Great collaborative environment, great views

Inconvénients

Some parts are slower moving due to bureaucracy but LBNL is unique in that red taping is also loose in some areas allowing for quicker innovation

Avantages

Opportunity to work on impactful scientific and engineering projects that support research and innovation. Exposure to multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, scientists, technicians, and project managers. Strong focus on safety, quality, and technical excellence. Good work-life balance and professional development opportunities. Ability to contribute to long-term projects with significant national and scientific importance.

Inconvénients

Large organizations can have multiple layers of review and approval, which may slow decision-making. Processes and documentation requirements can be extensive, especially for safety and compliance purposes. Project priorities can shift based on funding and organizational needs, requiring flexibility and adaptability.
