Avantages

Kinross Gold’s Round Mountain mine is hands-down one of the best places I’ve ever worked. Standards are high, performance is noticed and rewarded, and people genuinely care about doing excellent work. Top performers are recognized with real opportunities—promotions, raises, and challenging projects that keep you growing. Compensation is outstanding: industry-leading wages, regular overtime if you want it, solid annual increases that actually beat inflation, and a benefits package that feels generous rather than grudging—comprehensive medical/dental/vision, strong 401(k) match, boot allowances, safety incentives, and immediate eligibility for most perks. Work-life balance is respected with predictable shift schedules, decent PTO accrual (starting early), and paid holiday shutdowns that let you actually enjoy time with family. Safety culture is top-tier—daily focus, regular training, monthly safety meetings, and real investment in equipment and procedures that meet or exceed MSHA standards. Facilities are clean and well-maintained, communication across teams is clear and effective, and the crew is professional, skilled, and motivated. Leadership at both site and corporate levels (shout-out to the Round Mountain GM team and CEO Paul Rollinson) is visible, approachable, and focused on long-term success. The 6-month and long-term outlook feels strong—ongoing expansions, smart investments, and a clear path to sustained production and profitability.

Inconvénients

It’s remote Nevada desert work—hot summers, cold winters, and a long drive to bigger cities. The job is physically demanding, and shift work isn’t for everyone. That’s about it. The rewards far outweigh any minor drawbacks.

Avantages

Good benefits package. Competitive salaries.

Inconvénients

The people who are promoted do not have adequate skills or education to successfully perform their new roles. This leads to resentment from their subordinates and overall decline in department performance. Those who do receive promotions are not provided with training to help them succeed in their new roles. They end up overwhelmed and frustrated. Kinross exhibits zero respect for the knowledge base of the subject matter experts with many years of successfully delivering quality results with low costs. They only promote those who tell a great story instead of the cold, hard facts. SOPs are non-existent unless you work in the processing plant. Human resources personnel are unresponsive and are about 20 years behind the times compared to the competition.
