The new priority at Inova for about 4 years now is financial-- workplace efficiency, squeeze the staff, send them home quickly if productivity is at risk, cut the quality of supplies, replace long-serving staff with cheaper help, replace nurses with techs as much as possible, etc.. etc.. There is tremendous pressure to do more with less. The consequences of these policies of money over people: Staff quit, replaced with no one or with techs, or when things get desperate, they are replaced with travelers. So the pursuit of savings ends up being costly. The revolving door continues and the staff is stressed and unhappy. Until people are valued before $'s, the problems will remain. I trace this philosophy to Mark Stauder COO. He needs to go!
